Lucius had been here every now and then, when his family went to go fishing in the lake. It was a tradition of sorts.

After his brother left for college and his parents moved to Italy he was always alone. He’d wake up in the morning and look at the empty beds.

He walked in the sand. He rapped his hand around the cold iron handle of the old door.  He walked inside, waiting for his eyes to adjust. He sat on the boat. He felt something move and finally heard. “ I’ve been waiting for Lucius my dear “ he heard.

Dr Paginton

A big thank you to Mrs MacNabb and her class for sending in a whole class worth of work in the Feb 2021 Lockdown.  Here is a selection:

The last thing you expect to see in the middle of the woods is a gigantic head. Unless you’re careful it COULD be the last thing you’ll ever see…

We’d often walked these woods with the dog, next to the lake, tranquil – an escape from our normal hectic lifestyle. So, when a wooden sculpture appeared, we were excited to explore.

A spiral staircase led to its eyes – the perfect place to admire the view. Going back out to take a photo of Kelby and Hunter, I heard a creaking, groaning sound. I turned to see the mouth close… then silence.

Abi

I was about to run out to take a photo of Kelby when the ground started to shake. Looking around we saw the doors slowly closing. We looked around for hunter but all we saw was a hand and in its palm was a dog. “Noooooo” Kelby shouted.

Then the walls around us went pitch black and without a sound the floor dropped. By the time we fell to the bottom are throats hurt form all the screaming.

Standing up we saw a masked creature. His voice deep he said four words. “ GET OUT OF HERE”

Eliza

We were trapped!. We were caged animals but instead of steel bars it was a giant wooden head. After an hour of conversation we decided to escape through the window but the windows were way too small. We sat in silence...

Time passed and tiredness grew, we knew it was time to rest. Waking with a jolt, a loud creaking sound disturbed our slumber. As we opened our eyes we saw the mouth had opened.

We crept of the mouth to see a chest overflowing with jewels. I will never forget the moment we bathed in riches.

George

But as soon as it had closed it opened again not with my friends but with three portals one was stone-grey and ocean-blue the second one was red with a hint of yellow the third one was black as night and at the same time it was white I looked puzzled white and black at the same time.

Then I heard a voice so chilling that every hair stud on end like I had been struck by lightning the voice said” which portal shall you choose one will seal your fait another one will give you wealth

Isaac

The alien invasion: I started wondering what to do should I run and get help or should I try and help Kelby and Hunter by myself after all I shouldn't leave them here in a wooden head, anything could happen to them.

I was about to go and get help when I started to hear strange noises , suddenly the head started to tremble and soon it was hovering of the ground. then I spotted rocket boosters and screamed ,suddenly a green hand closed over my mouth and the head blasted into outer space.......

Noah

At first, I didn’t know what I had seen. I closed my eyes and opened them again. The mouth was still closed!

I cautiously crept towards the sculpture and shouted for Kelby and Hunter, but there was no reply. My heart pounded. What if they were playing a joke on me? What if they were injured, or worse, dead?

I shouted again, louder, but there was still no reply. Suddenly, the mouth opened with a weird hissing sound, a bit like the hydraulics Hunter had engineered. But there was no one. Not one trace of life that life was here…

Searching - by Sophia 18.5.20

A frantic search is underway after, Joseph Tucker, 15, disappeared at Cold Edge beach, just before sunset yesterday.
Joseph, who was distinctively tall at 6ft 2ins, was last seen with his friends, wearing a dark blue hoodie and grey tracksuit bottoms. He is described as a quiet, unassuming and friendly boy.
Hundreds of local people, including friends, family, specialist police divers and the lifeboat service have been diligently combing the beach and surrounding area.
It is unclear why Joseph disappeared, however his friends have reported that he had been arguing tempestuously with his parents for some time. The search continues.

He was searching. He was searching for something but he just didn't now what.

After the plane crashed he had forgot everything, his name, his family, his life. He was standing at the edge of the sky blue ocean waiting just waiting for something to happen.

No one was around to save him! He sat on the sand and dipped his feet in the cold water thinking about what he should do, why he was here all alone? Where was he going before the plane crashed? He had so many questions but no one to ask them to.

He just wanted to go home! Where ever home was!

The girl whose life was snatched - Lily 28.4.20

Have you ever thought about where your ancestors come from? Your history? What makes you…well you? Sarah did. She traced her family tree back to 1805 – Matilda and Jack Norris. It led her here – Kirknewton. Their graves were here somewhere, they would lead her back to the 1700s.

As she walked to the back of the graveyard, the stones became harder to read. Quickly, Sarah scanned the names and saw something odd. Her name! She was named after a long forgotten relative!

With her finger, she carefully traced the date that Sarah died. It couldn’t be true? It was tomorrow!

After she saw the date, she was feeling mixed emotions, worried, confused and mind-blown.

As she slowly walked away......”pshhhh” “pshhhh” she heard as she backed up and stumbled away. All of a sudden she fell, she lay there for almost two hours, as she slowly began to awaken there were spirits surrounding her. She screamed as loud as she could...but no one heard her. They whispered “ this is your last day on earth, make the most of it”.

She was worried she stood up and ran through the haunted graveyard and crashed through a car window. “ OUCH “ she cried the glass had bitten her. As the sky got gloomier and gloomier the car began to roll “oh no“. She said quietly. She screamed out of the windows “watch out“. But they all burst out of their cars and slowly their human flesh turned into green slimy slop and there brains turned to a screw. “Ahhhhhhh, they’re they’re ZOMBIES.......and her life on earth slowly disappeared.........
Creature in the glass.

"Cool, look at this!” said Anna.
Sauntering over, Abbie replied, “Uurgh, that’s gross!”
But both girls were transfixed. They stared with their noses right up against the glass.
“What do you think it is?” asked Abbie?
“Dunno, do you think it’s an alien?” said Anna.

There was a faint tap against the glass. So quiet neither girl could be sure they actually heard it. They certainly heard the second tap, quickly jumping back as the third tap smashed the glass!
The creature hissed, moving like it had just woken up, stretching.

Piercing screams filled the room as they raced away.

The two teenagers raced to find their parents before realising that the monster was chasing them. Gaining speed, the creature was unstoppable. Everything in its path was crushed.

What once was a busy science lab, was abandoned. Perhaps the inventors of the supernatural being realised its danger and didn’t want to get hurt so they left it there with no food or water.
“HadgaaghhaucbeauGemayelge” hissed the creature.
“Dude we are English not Malquershutters (the alien language)” shouted Anna.
“My name is Manaletirsa. From the planet Itostit” Manaletirsa hissed.
Manaletirsa pounced on them both and devoured their bodies.

“Aaaaaaaahhhhhh” screamed Anna. Waking up in a cold sweat. ‘I’m alive’ thought Anna, ‘I’m actually alive’

Demi       27.4.20

"What is that" Abbie yelled at Anne as they ran as fast as they could away from the alien/creature/thing
"how am I meant to know" Anne yelled back.

They both heard something bouncing behind them terrified they both looked back the creature was bouncing behind them. Each time it bounced it ate a person soon Anne and Abbie realised they were next.

"aaaagggghhhh" they screamed as the creature gobbled them up who or what was this strange creature and where would it strike next...

The gruesome monster thumped it's way out of the enclosure. He roared a loud roar which made everyone scream the loudest scream anyone has ever heard. It was so piercing that everyone had to run outside, get into their cars and zoom home.

Everyone did the same except Anna and Abbie, yes they were scared but they did have a courageous feeling for saving people. They stood outside making sure that everyone got out unharmed.

When they were sure that everyone was out, they crept inside and tried to find the monster. It wasn't hard because the smell was ghastly.
Thomas  28.4.20
Both girls were so scared by this spine chilling monster. "what could it be?" cried Anna. Their pounding hearts were so loud they couldn't here each other!  "Hide" shrieked Abbie! So she did. They both ran to some were safe.

Abbie ran to the locals to warn them there is danger coming there way. "Oh no" everyone shouted. Their town was in danger. Everyone wanted to hide but it was to late for that, the monster was here all they could do now was "RUN!" shouted Annie with all her might.
"Hang on, look over there it's Rockeyman here to rescue us" shrieked Annie. He was here to save them all from the monster, everything was GLORIOUS again.

Under the bridge
Max was patient, he had to be. Nothing in this world moved quickly, however much he wished that it would. He’d learnt to wait.
Max knew his contact would meet him under the bridge, sometime before midnight.
The cry of a seagull, the splash of an oar cutting through the river, broke the silence. Max watched a boat drift serenely into the shore beside him.
A casual nod from the oarsman was all Max needed. Nonchalantly, he stepped on board. No words were exchanged. As the boat edged away, Max wrapped his coat tighter.
Silently, they disappeared into the mist.

Adelie  22.4.20

Unfortunately for Max, he was travelling near the coast of California and, after a couple of minutes on the churning waves, he spotted a shape floating alongside the small boat.

Max didn’t think much of it, lots of corpses were thrown into the sea in the corruption of war.

The floating shape in the waters wasn’t a human body at all! It was a shark corpse, too shredded to tell what type.

Max stared in horror- frozen, when suddenly a...beast arose for the waves and dragged the shark into the sea. Then something knocked against the side of the boat....

William   22.4.20

Minutes passed but it felt like hours...

“Here will do.” The boat stopped. Max hopped out he walked to the bridge.
His contact was standing there.
“Greetings Max” said the contact.
“We don’t need a greeting Josh.” exclaimed Max
“Just put in the pin!”
So he did. The ground lowered.

The scenery changed from the dark night to a high tech lab.
“Is it ready?” Enquired Max
“Yes it is” stated a worker.
“Very well, let it begin.”

This command echoed around the lab. Machines whirred, as the first subject filed in.

Patrick  22.4.20

Max and the Boatman crossed the Rio Grande “Here’s the one hundred dollars for getting me across.’’ said Max, getting the payment out.

“One fifty or I tell the government about a journalist trying to sneak into their country.’’ Replied the Boatman, with a look of disgust on his face, but Max already had at gun pointing at him.
“You’re under arrest for illegally smuggling people across the American boarder.’’ said Max with a look of pleasure on his face. He then spoke into his wire “have I done enough for this country can I go back to mars now?’’…

Tom  22.4.20

They rode along the silent river, the only noise distant cheering from a concert in the city. Neither of them spoke, Max’s nerves were jangling.

They reached the other side of the river and a tall figure came out of a side door and beckoned him in. “Max my favourite little boy”
“I want nowt to do with this from now on” as he handed him the package full of illegal substance.
“That won’t be possible” slurred J “we need more drugs and you’re going to...”

Max turned and ran but he felt a thud in his leg and screamed...

The Bluebell Woods by Mia
17.4.20

The blue bell woods is in the middle of know where. It has beautiful animals living inside. The trees are oak-coloured. The spider webs hanging from the trees have little droplets inside it that look like diamonds shining in the night. Some of the trees have for ever lasting snow which is very cool. There are swans living in the pink river. The swans are very clean. They look like snow that has just fallen from the sky. There are purple butterflies that look like crystals living in blue bell woods. Who knows wether they will find this place ?

The eerie engravement  by   TJ

Come on, it’ll be a laugh, you don’t believe in ghosts do you?” taunted Jane.
“No, course not!” chorused Katelyn and Millie together.
“But being creeped out, at night time is different.” said Katelyn nervously.
“Well, we’re in here now, let’s go and explore.” continued Jane walking off.

Their shoes crunched on the gritty floor. The sound echoed and amplified from the cold, stone walls. Everything else was silent.

“What was that?” whispered Katelyn, looking behind her.
“I don’t know.” Said Millie, staring into the darkness.
“Jane, did you hear that?” asked Katelyn turning to face her.
Jane wasn’t there…

Suddenly, out of nowhere a light flickered on and it nearly blinded them. Then after a few seconds of torture from the light, a stone was pushed out of a wall to reveal a secret chamber. They both struggled in as there were very pointy and sharp rocks.

Out of the blue, a spear shot out of the wall and struck Katelyn right through the heart. Millie's jaw dropped, both of her best friends gone.

The last light flickered on and Millie saw an writing on the wall that read "I SHALL RETURN 17/04/2020". Then Millie screamed because that was the date...

An unlikely hero.
answers from Ruby       17.4.20

Being in the wrong place at the wrong time was a talent that Elias Cooper wished he didn’t possess.
The hovel where he grew up was squalid, flea-infested, cold.  An underling, worth nothing: overlooked by the Medieval society he lived in.
So when Elias witnessed Wizard Ivras murder Bishop Jarin outside Five Victories Cathedral, he knew his life was over.  Even though Elias tried to hide, escape was impossible, Ivras transformed him into a gargoyle, frozen in time, destined to witness the crime scene.

Until…the rain began to change him, released to put things
right - to become a hero.

Ruby has sent in her answers:

1. What kind of person is Elias, which words show this?
Elias is young, brave boy since in the text it says that he witnessed Ivras’ death by murder.
2. What might have happened to Elias before this story began? Why do you think this?
Before the story starts he was likely to have been having a bad day and he grew up in a rough place and he was always in the wrong place at the wrong time.
3. Why do you think Elias couldn’t hide from Ivras?
Elias couldn’t hide from the wizard because he was just to powerful, the chances he had of survival were close to impossible!
4. How might the rain change Elias? Is he still human? Is he a gargoyle? Or is he something else?
I suspect the rain has to do with a curse and maybe Elias still has a spec of life inside of him, can he break the curse...

Her fingers trembled as she read the other names. Mark, George, William, Ruby and Margaret she read aloud. These were all her cousin's names. Are they doomed to?

She began to panic and panic until what was only left were little specks of dark circles surrounding her.
She fell. Her head ached.
All Sarah could wonder about was her ceremony being led tomorrow.
